Nerys Williams

Nerys Williams, Chief Officer at Cwm Taf Care & Repair, will be interviewed on local radio station, GTFM on Friday morning regarding Older Not Colder, its new free service to support local older homeowners and private renters through the winter.

Older Not Colder is specifically designed to support older people who are struggling to keep their homes warm and their energy bills down and targets those who are privately renting or own their homes. Care & Repair’s Home Energy Officers (HEOs) visit and assess homes for free and give expert advice and tips on saving energy. They also work to try and find the funding needed if repairs and improvements are required.

“The service is funded and delivered in partnership with Wales & West Utilities and is a national service that is managed by Care & Repair Cymru.  It is a perfect opportunity for this to be developed further with our partners in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board following the successful Pension Credit & winter fuel campaign that has been delivered” explains Nerys.

“With the Older Not Colder service we can help older people stay healthy and well in their own homes during this cold weather and, as a result, also relieve the pressure on our local NHS services.”

Cwm Taf Care & Repair is part of Cynon Taf Community Housing Group and, says group chief executive, Auriol Miller, linking healthy homes and healthy lives is good for people and for public services.

“Those of us who work in the housing sector have long seen, understood and talked about the importance of healthy homes to healthy lives. The Older Not Colder service is  a great example of joining those dots working in partnership with local NHS services.”
