What does my rent cover?

The rent you pay helps us to make sure that your home is safe and secure and that we can provide you with a range of tenancy services and support. Your rent pays for the maintenance of your home, it also helps us to plan works such as new kitchen and bathroom installations.

Did you know that our rent is set within Welsh Government requirements? It means that we balance value for money with affordability, making sure we can carry out the legal requirements of as a social landlord, but also what works, services and support will be needed for the coming year.

We also use your rent to build more affordable, energy efficient homes in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

What is a service charge?

Some of you will also pay a service charge. This is to cover specific services you receive and is usually where there are communal areas such as ground maintenance, cleaning, lighting, fire equipment and lift or adaptations maintenance. We calculate this by using actual costs of the service from the previous year. Some service charges are eligible for Housing Benefit and Universal Credit. We will explain these costs to you every year and your housing officer will be able to give you more information.
